Shillong, April 18 (NationPress) In a stunning display, Shillong Lajong triumphed over Aizawl FC with a remarkable 6-1 victory during Match 42 of the Star Cement Indian Football League 2025-26 at the SSA Stadium on Saturday. Tremiki Lamurong was the star of the match, netting two goals in the 87th and 90’+3rd minutes.

The scoring spree began with Phrangki Buam, followed by Everbrightson Sana, Gladdy Kharbuli, and Lamlallian Vaiphei contributing to the tally, while Lalhriatpuia managed to score a consolation for Aizawl.

With this win, Shillong Lajong temporarily ascended to second place in the standings, amassing 17 points from nine matches. Conversely, Aizawl’s defeat relegated them to seventh place, solidifying their position in the relegation phase.

Head coach Birendra Thapa made a single alteration to his starting lineup, introducing Gladdy Kharbuli in midfield to replace Abelson Jachi. On the other hand, Aizawl’s R. Lalruatfela made three adjustments, bringing in Lalawmpuia Sailo, Malsawmzuala Tlangte, and Lalhriatpuia in place of Zomuansanga, Vanlalawmpuia, and Vincent Lalduhawmna.

Aizawl initially dominated the match with their sharp passing, pressing the Lajong defense. They created several opportunities but struggled with finishing, thanks to key saves from goalkeeper Ranit Sarkar and determined defensive efforts.

The home team took the lead in the 26th minute when left-back Saveme Tariang sent in a curling cross that Lalhruaitluanga, the Aizawl goalkeeper, failed to claim. Phrangki Buam seized the chance, scoring beneath the goalkeeper.

Aizawl responded by piling on the pressure and earning multiple corner kicks. Luis Rodríguez missed a golden opportunity to equalize, sending his header over the bar.

Just before the half-time whistle, Shillong Lajong doubled their lead due to another mistake from the Aizawl goalkeeper. Lalhruaitluanga misjudged a long ball, allowing Everbrightson Sana to capitalize and score into an empty net, making it 2-0.

As the second half commenced, Shillong Lajong pressed forward, earning several corners but failing to convert. Aizawl managed to pull one back shortly after the restart when a defensive error allowed Lalhriatpuia to score with a well-placed header.

A penalty was awarded to the home side just after the hour mark when Laldanmawia fouled Phrangki Buam in the box. Lamlallian confidently converted, marking the match’s third goal for Lajong.

Shortly after, Lajong scored again due to another defensive lapse. Luis Rodríguez failed to clear, and Saveme Tariang intercepted, passing to Ephraim Lalremtluanga, who struck powerfully with Gladdy Kharbuli cleverly redirecting it into the net.

The Red Dragons maintained control, capitalizing on a goalkeeping blunder to net their fifth goal three minutes from time. Lalhruaitluanga was caught off guard by a quick challenge from substitute Jakob Vanlalhimpuia, leading to Tremiki Lamurong easily finishing into the vacant net.

In stoppage time, the home side scored again. Jakob Vanlalhimpuia and Tremiki Lamurong connected once more, with Jakob providing a precise pass that Tremiki powered into the net to complete his brace.
