Tamil Nadu cricketer Shahrukh Khan has spent nearly two decades navigating a career defined in part by a name he shares with one of Bollywood's biggest stars. Yet when asked which celebrity he most wants to meet, the 29-year-old batter's answer was a surprise — he would rather meet Salman Khan than his famous namesake Shah Rukh Khan.

The Celebrity Wish List

'I really wish to meet Salman Khan more than Shah Rukh,' the Tamil Nadu all-rounder said in an exclusive conversation. Despite playing several IPL matches against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) — the franchise co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan — the cricketer has never managed to cross paths with the actor. 'We played quite a few matches against KKR. But I actually missed the opportunity to meet Shahrukh Khan. He obviously did not come for the game,' he explained.

Notably, the cricketer is fully aware that he was named after the Bollywood star, having been born after the actor rose to fame. He says he is particularly curious about how Shah Rukh Khan will react when they finally meet. 'I will wait for his reaction first. Because I was born after him. So, I was named after him. I have heard that he has got an uncanny sense of humour,' he said, adding that mutual friend and cricketer Varun Chakravarthy has vouched for the superstar's warmth.

TNPL Title and Kovai Kings' Historic Run

The conversation came on the back of one of the cricketer's finest moments — leading Kovai Kings to their third Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) title. The Kings defeated Madurai Panthers by 84 runs in the final, making them only the second team in TNPL history to win three championships. Shahrukh captained the side throughout the campaign and was a central figure in their run to the title.

He views the TNPL as far more than a personal milestone. 'TNPL has been a platform for a lot of players from Tamil Nadu including me, Natarajan, Varun Chakravarthy, a lot of players and the way the tournament has grown over the years is just immense,' he said. He expressed hope that IPL scouts would identify fresh talent from the current edition, helping the tournament grow further.

Difficult IPL 2026 and a Technical Reset

Shahrukh's TNPL success came after a difficult IPL 2026 season with Gujarat Titans, where he struggled for form and was dropped from the playing XI midway through the tournament. Rather than dwell on the setback, the batter used the break to address a specific technical flaw he says had been affecting his game for seven to eight months.

'My front foot was going too far across which I never used to do that before. I had a proper couple of months in between where I could focus on my technique and get as tight as possible,' he said. The adjustment, he indicated, was central to his return to form in the TNPL.

Two Decades in Tamil Nadu Cricket

Shahrukh has been part of Tamil Nadu's cricket circuit for approximately two decades and has established himself as one of the state's leading white-ball players. His IPL journey has taken him across multiple franchises, most recently Gujarat Titans. His career arc — from state cricket to the IPL and back to a TNPL title — reflects the kind of resilience that domestic cricket in India increasingly demands.
