ICC Greenlights Morrissey to Step in for Maguire in Ireland's U19 Women's T20 World Cup Roster

Dubai, Jan 12 (NationPress) The Event Technical Committee overseeing the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 has officially confirmed Genevieve Morrissey as a substitute for Aimee Maguire within the Ireland team.

Maguire was flagged for a suspected illegal bowling action during a senior women’s match against India in Rajkot last Friday. She is required to undergo an assessment within 14 days, coinciding with the tournament dates, prompting Ireland to seek her replacement.

Any player replacement requires the sanction of the Event Technical Committee before the new player can be formally included in the squad.

The Event Technical Committee for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 comprises Snehal Pradhan, ICC Manager – Women’s Cricket, Gurjit Singh, ICC Manager – Event Operations, Dinesh Muthuraman, Malaysia Cricket Association – Tournament Director, and Julia Price (Independent).

The 18-year-old left-arm off-spinner Maguire debuted internationally in 2023 and has accrued 20 caps for Ireland, securing 25 wickets across all formats.

Graeme West, Director of High Performance at Cricket Ireland, stated: “With the report now in hand, we will adhere to the ICC protocols that outline a clear process to advance.

“The team and staff are supporting Aimee, assuring her that she will come back with a stronger bowling action and will continue to excel on the international platform for years ahead.

“The extensive experience and knowledge within our High Performance Coaching and Support Services at Cricket Ireland will ensure Aimee receives the necessary care, support, and guidance to undertake the remedial program, which will commence after the team's return from India.”

Ireland is set to engage in two official warm-up matches against South Africa and Malaysia prior to competing against England in the tournament on January 18.
