Dubai, Aug 5 (NationPress) Ireland’s promising left-arm spinner Aimee Maguire has received the green light from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to return to bowling in international cricket immediately, following a successful evaluation of her bowling action.
Maguire was flagged for a potentially illegal bowling action during the first ODI of the ICC Women’s Championship series against India on January 10 this year. Following this, she underwent a bowling assessment at the ICC Accredited testing facility in Loughborough, United Kingdom, on January 21, where it was determined that her elbow extension exceeded the allowable 15-degree limit under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.
In a statement, the ICC said, "After undergoing remedial work and a further assessment, Aimee Maguire's bowling action has been deemed legal, allowing her to resume bowling in international matches."
"An independent evaluation of Maguire’s modified bowling action at an ICC-accredited testing center confirmed that her elbow extension was now within the permissible 15-degree threshold as per the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations," the statement added.
Graeme West, Director of High Performance at Cricket Ireland, expressed, "We are thrilled with the outcome of Aimee’s assessment in Loughborough. Aimee has dedicated an exceptional amount of effort to remodel her action, and full credit goes to James Cameron-Dow and the entire support staff and players of the Senior Women’s Team for their unwavering support over the past six months. We will gradually reintegrate Aimee into the senior squad's high-performance program and are eager to see her back in international action.”
Aimee, who is the younger sister of Ireland's leading bowler Jane Maguire, gained attention for her remarkable figures of 5-19 against England, marking her team’s first victory against them since 2002.
To date, she has participated in 11 ODIs and nine T20Is for Ireland, taking a total of 25 wickets.
Looking ahead, Ireland is set to compete against Pakistan in a three-match T20I series at home, kicking off on Wednesday.
