Aimee Maguire of Ireland Reported for Bowling Action Concerns

Rajkot, Jan 12 (NationPress) Ireland’s left-arm spinner Aimee Maguire has been flagged due to a questionable bowling action during the inaugural ODI of their ICC Women’s Championship series against India, which took place in Rajkot on Friday.

The match officials’ report, submitted to the Ireland team management, raised issues regarding the legality of the 18-year-old's bowling action, as noted in a statement by the ICC.

According to the statement, Maguire’s bowling action will undergo testing in line with the ICC’s procedures concerning suspected illegal bowling actions observed in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. She is allowed to continue bowling in international cricket until the testing results are available.

Maguire, who made her international debut in 2023, is a left-arm off-spinner with 20 caps for Ireland and has taken 25 wickets across various formats.

Cricket Ireland has expressed its full support for Aimee following the formal notification from the ICC regarding the report of a ‘Suspect Illegal Bowling Action’ filed by match officials post the ODI against India.

Graeme West, Director of High Performance at Cricket Ireland, stated, “Now that the report has been received we will follow the ICC protocols which are very clear and provide a process to move forward.”

He added, “The staff and players are rallying around Aimee, reassuring her that she will return with a stronger action and will continue to shine on the international stage for many years to come.”

“The experience and expertise we hold within our High Performance Coaching and Support Services at Cricket Ireland will offer Aimee the care, support, and guidance needed to implement the remedial program, which will commence after the team returns from India,” he continued.

Ireland currently trails the three-match series 1-0 after their six-wicket loss in the first ODI held in Rajkot. The remaining two ODIs are scheduled for January 12 and 15 at the same venue.
