Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla commended the International Cricket Council (ICC) for successfully achieving an amicable resolution that ensures the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match will proceed as planned. This comes after Pakistan's government reversed its previous decision to boycott the highly anticipated event.
In a surprising turn of events, the Pakistan government has now permitted its men's cricket team to participate in the scheduled match against India during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on February 15 in Colombo.
“I am thrilled by the results of the negotiations led by the ICC representative, under the supervision of the ICC chairman, and the discussions held with the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. This is a positive and amicable solution that emphasizes the significance of cricket,” Shukla expressed to reporters on Tuesday.
“Kudos to the ICC for initiating this dialogue, resolving the matter, and reinstating cricket's prominence. This is a significant achievement for the ICC. I appreciate their efforts in bringing Pakistan back to the negotiating table, culminating in their participation in the Colombo match. It’s wonderful news for everyone, and the February 15 match in Colombo is confirmed. This World Cup is set to be a tremendous success,” he added.
Moreover, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the ICC later confirmed that Bangladesh will not incur penalties for their absence from the tournament and will have the chance to host an ICC event before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2031, pending standard hosting procedures and requirements.
“Additionally, Bangladesh’s concerns were taken into account during these discussions, and some concessions have been made for their board, which they appreciate,” Shukla noted.
“In fact, they have commended the ICC for their endeavors. This is a win-win scenario for all parties involved, and I am pleased that the match will proceed, ensuring a successful World Cup,” he concluded.
