Kuala Lumpur, Jan 23 (NationPress) G. Trisha was the standout performer with a score of 49, while the bowlers showcased an impressive team effort as India triumphed over Sri Lanka by 60 runs to progress to the Super Six stage of the 2025 ICC U19 T20 Women’s World Cup as Group A leaders at the Bayuemas Oval on Thursday.

Batting first in damp conditions on a sluggish pitch, Trisha excelled, hitting five boundaries and a six in her 44-ball innings, propelling India to a total of 118/9. In response, bowlers Shabnam Shakil and Joshitha V.J. each took two wickets, reducing Sri Lanka to 26/5 during the Power-play and ultimately limiting them to 58/9.

Sri Lanka initially seized the initiative by dismissing G. Kamalini and Sanika Chalke quickly, leaving India at 17/2 in 4.2 overs before rain interrupted play. Once resumed, Trisha steadied the innings, forming partnerships of 31 and 30 with captain Niki Prasad and Bhavika Ahire. Although Sri Lanka made a comeback in the latter stages by claiming six wickets, India still managed to score an additional 70 runs and surpass the 110-run threshold.

While defending a modest target, India's bowlers were sharp from the start, with Shabnam and Joshitha each claiming two wickets, supported by a run-out of captain Manudi Nanayakkara, establishing India's dominance.

The outcome became inevitable as Sri Lanka concluded their innings at 58/9, with the reigning champions India maintaining their undefeated streak in the tournament. India is set to play their opening Super Six match against Bangladesh at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, followed by a clash against Scotland at the same venue on January 28.
