New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) The competition for India at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2025 concluded as the men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty fell to the world no. 2 team of Nur Izzuddin and Goh Sze Fei from Malaysia in the semifinals of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall on Saturday.

The Indian pair, returning to the BWF circuit after an injury to Satwik, started off strong against their Malaysian opponents but struggled to implement their strategy in the latter part of both games, losing 21-18, 21-14 in just 37 minutes.

The third seeds will now compete against the Malaysia Open champions Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae from Korea, who overcame fifth seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia with scores of 22-20, 21-19.

This Sunday, Olympic champion An Se Young from South Korea will face Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong in the women's singles final, while the French duo of Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue will strive for their first Super 750 title against the second-seeded team of Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin from China.

The women's doubles final features eighth seeds Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong from South Korea going up against Japan's Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sakuramoto.

The KD Jadhav Indoor Hall was filled to capacity, brimming with anticipation for another strong performance by Satwik and Chirag. The world no. 9 pair, who reached the semifinals of the Malaysia Open Super 1000 the previous week, began robustly and led 15-12 in the opening game. However, Goh and Izzuddin began to apply pressure at the net, leading to unforced errors from the Indian duo.

Goh and Izzuddin seized seven consecutive points, and a crucial error from Satwik allowed the Malaysians to clinch the first game.

In the second game, the Indian pair lost eight of the initial ten points, but a quick rally brought them back into contention. However, Goh and Izzuddin swiftly capitalized on the Indians' serves, maintaining the pressure and preventing the 2022 Asian Games gold medalists from making a comeback through powerful smashes.

Chirag commented, “We should have secured the first game, but credit goes to them for their exceptional service game, which we weren't prepared for. We needed to remain more composed.”

Earlier, in the women’s singles semifinal, Pornpawee Chochuwong staged a comeback against Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki, winning 11-21, 24-22, 21-19, while top seed An Se Young faced a challenging match, winning 21-19, 21-16.

Chochuwong appeared to be on the brink of defeat while trailing 14-19 in the second game after losing the opener. Nevertheless, she pushed herself to recover every attacking stroke from Miyazaki, saving three match points and forcing errors in lengthy rallies to secure a deciding game.

In the final game, the Thai player exhibited greater composure, which proved crucial in a match that extended over an hour and 13 minutes.
