India Penalized for Delayed Over-Rate in Second WODI Against Australia

Dubai, Dec 12 (NationPress) The Indian women’s cricket team has been penalized 10 percent of their match fee for exhibiting a slow over-rate during the second ODI of the ICC Women’s Championship series against Australia.

This penalty was enforced by ICC Match Referee David Gilbert after Harmanpreet Kaur's squad was determined to be two overs short of the required number, even after accounting for time allowances.

The ICC statement noted, "India captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted to the violation and accepted the penalty, eliminating the need for a formal hearing."

The allegations were made by the on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Donovan Koch, along with third umpire Jacquline Williams and fourth umpire David Taylor.

The second ODI, which took place in Brisbane, proved to be a tough challenge for the Indian team. Australia set an imposing target, scoring their highest-ever total against India in ODIs, a remarkable 371/8. In reply, India could only muster 249, falling short by 122 runs.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, players incur a five percent deduction from their match fee for each over their team fails to complete within the allocated time.

The three-match ODI series concluded with a 3-0 victory for Australia.
