New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) Ireland has been penalized with a fine of 10 percent of their match fee due to a slow over-rate during the third and final ODI of their recent series against India held at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that according to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate violations, players will incur a fine of five percent of their match fee for each over their team fails to complete within the designated time.

This charge was brought forth by on-field umpires Kim Cotton and Akshay Totre, along with third umpire Virender Sharma and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi. The sanction was enforced by Match Referee G S Lakshmi of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees after it was determined that Ireland was two overs short of the required target, even with time allowances considered.

“Captain Gaby Lewis of Ireland accepted the penalty and admitted to the offence, negating the necessity for a formal hearing,” stated the ICC.

During the match on Wednesday, India secured a record victory with a 304-run margin, thereby winning the series 3-0. This victory also marked the largest margin of win for the hosts in women’s ODIs.

The remarkable win was spearheaded by Pratika Rawal (154) and Smriti Mandhana (135), both of whom scored centuries, leading to a total of 435/5, which is the highest score ever recorded by India in women’s ODIs, and then bowled out Ireland for 131 in just 31.4 overs. Smriti also set the record for the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian woman, reaching the milestone in just 70 balls, surpassing the previous record held by regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who achieved it in 87 balls.

With Richa Ghosh contributing a brisk 59, India became only the third team to surpass 400 runs in women’s ODI history, a remarkable achievement for the first time.

The score of 435/5 now stands as the highest team total for India in ODIs, regardless of gender, and is the fourth-highest score in the annals of women’s ODI cricket.
