Fazalhaq Farooqi Penalized for Dissent During ODI Against Zimbabwe

Dubai, Dec 20 (NationPress) Afghanistan's pace bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi has received a fine amounting to 15 percent of his match fee for infringing upon Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, the ICC declared in a statement released on Friday.

This infraction is categorized under Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to "showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match."

The incident took place during the fifth over of Zimbabwe’s innings when the left-arm bowler displayed dissent after an lbw appeal against Craig Ervine was rejected. Farooqi gestured to request a review even though DRS was unavailable for the match.

As a result, one demerit point has been added to Fazalhaq’s disciplinary record. This marks his first offence in a 24-month timeframe.

"Fazalhaq acknowledged the offence and accepted the penalty proposed by Match Referee Andy Pycroft and upheld by on-field umpires Chris Brown and Percival Sizara, third umpire Langton Rusere, and fourth umpire Iknow Chabi," the ICC statement noted.

In the meantime, Afghanistan displayed a commanding performance in the second ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare. Sediqullah Atal (104) and Abdul Malik (84) formed a formidable opening partnership, accumulating a remarkable 191-run stand that allowed the visitors to set a total of 286/6 in their allotted 50 overs.

In their response, Zimbabwe crumbled to just 54, with only two players managing to score in double digits. AM Ghazanfar and Naveed Zadran each took three wickets, leading Afghanistan to a resounding victory by 232 runs, marking their largest win margin by runs in ODI history.
