Zimbabwe Faces Penalty for Delayed Over-Rate in T20I Against Afghanistan

Dubai, Dec 16 (NationPress) Players representing Zimbabwe have incurred a fine of 10 percent of their match fee for failing to maintain the required over-rate during the third T20I match against Afghanistan in Harare on Saturday.

The sanction was imposed by Andy Pycroft of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after Zimbabwe was deemed to be two overs short of the target, taking into account the time allowances, as stated in an official release from the ICC.

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, players face a five percent fine of their match fee for each over their team fails to complete in the allotted time.

Zimbabwe's captain Sikandar Raza admitted guilt regarding the violation and accepted the suggested penalty, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

The on-field umpires, Iknow Chabi and Forster Mutizwa, along with third umpire Percival Sizara and fourth umpire Langton Rusere, were responsible for laying the charge.

Currently, Zimbabwe is hosting Afghanistan for an all-format tour, which commenced with a series of three T20I matches between the two teams.

After a loss in the first T20I by four wickets, Afghanistan made a strong comeback, winning by 50 runs and three wickets in the subsequent matches, thereby clinching the series 2-1.

The two sides are set to compete in three ODIs, followed by two Test matches, with the first ODI scheduled to take place in Harare on Tuesday.
