New Delhi, June 16 (NationPress) The host nation, India, is set to kick off the eagerly awaited 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup against Sri Lanka at the renowned M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on September 30, as announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday.
According to the tournament schedule, India's prominent clash with Pakistan will take place at the neutral venue of R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on October 5. Under the hybrid model agreement established between the BCCI and PCB, Pakistan will conduct all its matches in Colombo.
Defending champions Australia will commence their journey against New Zealand at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on October 1, followed by Bangladesh facing Pakistan on October 2 in Colombo. A significant rematch of the 2022 final will occur on October 22 when Indore hosts Australia against England.
“The announcement of the schedule only amplifies the excitement and anticipation for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. With the top eight teams in women’s cricket converging in India, alongside magnificent venues and the expectation of record crowds, we are eager for an unforgettable tournament,” remarked ICC Chairman Jay Shah.
The round-robin phase will continue until October 26, culminating with two matches on the final day of group play: England vs. New Zealand in Guwahati at 11 am and India vs. Bangladesh in Bengaluru at 3 pm.
The top four teams from the round-robin stage will advance to the semi-finals, with the first place facing the fourth-ranked team and the second place battling the third place. The semi-finals are slated for October 29 and 30, culminating in the final on November 2.
The first semi-final will occur in either Guwahati or Colombo, contingent on Pakistan's performance, while the second will be held in Bengaluru. The final will take place in either Bengaluru or Colombo.
India is hosting the Women’s ODI World Cup for the first time since 2013. In addition to India, the teams participating in the Women’s ODI World Cup include Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
