Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) The India U17 women's football team is set to engage in three friendly matches against Russia in Sochi on April 11, 14, and 17, 2026. Under the guidance of head coach Pamela Conti, a squad of 23 players has been assembled for these encounters.
All matches will take place at the Matsesta Football Centre in Sochi, commencing at 14:30 IST.
The Young Tigresses, who are gearing up for the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup in China 2026, arrived in Sochi late Monday. Just last month, they traveled to Yangon for two friendly matches against the local team, emerging victorious in both matches with scores of 2-0 and 3-2. Following their return, Conti's squad resumed training in Bengaluru.
The team showcased a strong performance, winning their first international friendly against Myanmar 2-0. Pritika Barman was a standout player, netting both goals—one just before halftime and another early in the second half. India displayed a well-rounded performance, characterized by solid defense led by Abhista Basnett and Elizabed Lakra, while goalkeeper Munni secured a clean sheet.
After a closely contested first half, India took control in the second half, effectively managing possession and pace. They nearly scored a third goal, hitting the crossbar, and confidently wrapped up the match.
During the Asian Cup scheduled in Suzhou, India will compete against Australia on May 2, Japan on May 5, and Lebanon on May 8 in Group B.
