New Delhi, July 21 (NationPress) The India women's cricket team enjoyed a breathtaking train journey through the UK, traveling from London to Newcastle for the decisive third ODI against England, scheduled for Tuesday at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
Before the critical series finale, the team took an opportunity to relax and cherish the moments together during their train ride to Newcastle. Some players engaged in a game of Ludo, while others found solace in their books.
“This is our last journey (of this tour); after this, everyone will part ways. So this train ride will be a treasured memory from our journey,” said Richa Ghosh in a video shared by BCCI on X.
“Every travel day has been memorable... it was a 35-day tour, and we hadn’t realized it was nearing its end,” added team physio Akansha Satyavanshi.
Having secured a historic T20I series victory of 3-2, the women-in-blue are now focused on clinching the ODI series. The visitors kicked off the ODI series strongly with a comfortable four-wicket win, taking a 1-0 lead over England. However, the hosts retaliated with an eight-wicket victory at Lord's, leveling the series.
During the ODI series opener, Deepti Sharma contributed an unbeaten 62, supported by Jemimah Rodrigues with 48 runs, chasing down a target of 259. The victory was secured thanks to strong bowling performances by Kranti Goud (2-55) and Sneh Rana (2-31). Sophia Dunkley (83) and Alice Davidson Richards (53) provided resilient contributions for the hosts, who recovered from a challenging position of 97 for 4.
Nevertheless, England's all-round performance enabled them to overcome both India and the rain, achieving an eight-wicket win at Lord's and leveling the three-match ODI series.
In a match reduced to 29 overs and starting four hours late, England managed to restrict India to 143 runs. Strong performances from England’s top three kept the chase on track, but rain intervened. After a revised target of 115 in 24 overs, the hosts successfully chased it down with three overs remaining, equalizing the series at 1-all.
