New Delhi, April 13 (NationPress) The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports today honored the Indian team that showcased exceptional performance at the Bangkok 2026 World Archery Para Series, which took place from March 30 to April 4, 2026, in Thailand.

This prestigious tournament featured participants from 21 nations and 113 athletes, with significant representation from both the Asian and Pan-American regions. India distinguished itself as the leading nation, securing the top spot on the medal table with an impressive total of 13 medals: 7 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze. Indonesia followed in second place with 6 medals, and Thailand came in third with 5.

The Indian squad consisted of 39 members, including 21 athletes, 5 coaches, 3 support staff, and 10 escorts, who delivered a remarkable performance across various categories.

The preparation and participation of the contingent were bolstered under the ACTC through the ANSF Scheme, with expenditures totaling Rs 1.04 crore and Rs 20.51 lakh, respectively.

The ceremony to honor the athletes was graced by senior officials from the Archery Association of India, including Secretary General Virendra Sachdeva and Gautam Abrol.

In sharing their experiences, athletes and coaches emphasized the competitive spirit and the pride of representing India on an international platform.

Payal Nag, recognized as the world’s first quadruple amputee para archer, gained prominence in this event by winning gold in her category. She expressed her contentment with the arrangements and pride in India’s position atop the medal tally.

Sheetal Devi reflected on the emotional highs of the competition, noting that the sight of the Indian tricolour being raised and the playing of the national anthem fueled their sense of pride.

Coach Abhilasha Chaudhary pointed out that India not only excelled in terms of medals but also established itself as a formidable presence in the competition. She stressed that India's recognition as a global power is expanding into various domains, including sports.

Shyam Sunder Swami remarked on India’s esteemed reputation preceding its participation, with competing nations keenly monitoring the events involving Indian athletes, anticipating fierce competition.
