London, July 14 (NationPress) Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad asserts that India struggled to handle the theatrical aspects of Test match cricket during the Lord's Test on Monday, where they lost four wickets in the morning session.
Following Jofra Archer's removal of Rishabh Pant's stumps, K.L. Rahul and Washington Sundar quickly followed suit. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja managed to maintain a composed approach against a highly motivated England side.
However, calamity struck for India when Reddy fell to Chris Woakes in the final over before lunch.
"It was magnificent. England excelled. Led by Stokes and Archer, their passion and energy exemplified the theatrical nature of Test cricket that we cherish. India couldn’t really handle it," Broad remarked.
Broad added, "Although he has been out of the game for a considerable time, the emotions he experiences while bowling in such moments - running in with the crowd roaring and the Test match at stake - are incredible," he said on Sky Sports.
Broad also commended Archer, who was returning to Test cricket after a four-year hiatus, for his significant wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal on Day 4, followed by Pant and Sundar on the final day of the Test.
"Test cricket is about creating theatre, and Jofra embodied that spirit. He delivered an exceptional performance after missing numerous games," he continued.
Looking ahead to lunch, India needs to score 81 runs to secure victory in the Lord's Test, while England aims to claim two more wickets to take the lead in the series.
