Rome, Feb 11 (NationPress) Inter Milan avenged their earlier defeat to Fiorentina in Serie A, securing a 2-1 victory at San Siro. This match marked the second encounter between the two teams in just four days, following Fiorentina's 3-0 win at home on Thursday in a rescheduled match.
Inter commenced the game with high intensity and took the lead in the 28th minute, benefiting from a stroke of luck when Hakan Calhanoglu's corner kick was inadvertently deflected into the goal by Fiorentina's defender Marin Pongracic.
Fiorentina managed to equalize before the end of the first half, as they were awarded a penalty following Matteo Darmian's handball. Rolando Mandragora confidently converted the penalty.
Inter regained the lead shortly after the second half began when Carlos Augusto delivered a cross from the left that substitute Marko Arnautovic skillfully headed into the net.
“I really wanted it. We’re all satisfied with the goal and the victory. It’s been a challenging time since I haven’t been able to score. I missed several opportunities. Finally, I managed to score, thanks to Carlos’ assist. I’m truly happy because this goal is significant,” said Arnautovic.
With this victory, Inter maintains its position in second place with 54 points, just one point behind leaders Napoli, who drew 1-1 with Udinese on Sunday. Fiorentina has now dropped to sixth place with 42 points.
“This win is essential. The team worked together excellently, and our fans were supportive throughout this challenging match. I’m very pleased with our performance. The players showed the right mindset, and it was a well-executed victory. We approached the game effectively in both halves. The team kept their composure and displayed excellent technical skills. Arnie was outstanding. He’s a crucial player for us both on and off the field, and I’m delighted he scored because he deserves it,” stated Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
