Como (Italy), May 24 (NationPress) After just missing the Serie A title on the last day, assistant coach Massimiliano Farris stated that Inter Milan is now fully focused on the upcoming Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite a heavily rotated Inter team securing a 2–0 win over Como on Friday, last season’s Scudetto winners were unable to retain their title, as Napoli clinched the championship with a 2–0 victory over Cagliari.
Speaking on behalf of suspended head coach Simone Inzaghi, Farris urged the players to swiftly move past the disappointment and concentrate entirely on the crucial match against PSG on June 1.
"The atmosphere is that of a team that has fulfilled its duties. It’s unfortunate because it has been a long journey, and we have had to let the title slip away," Farris expressed to reporters.
"But we are athletes, and we extend our congratulations to Napoli. Their players are formidable, and we wish them well.
"Yet, football offers the immediate chance to pursue a dream. This year, we have had an exceptional Champions League journey, and our ambition and resolve is to win this trophy."
Farris defended Inter's decision to rest key players such as forwards Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
"We deployed a competitive squad. Kudos to Como and coach Cesc Fabregas for their efforts. Our strategy was to avoid risking any players; a rotation was planned, and it went as intended," he mentioned.
"We believed we could achieve the result while keeping the players in optimal condition for Munich."
Farris also stressed the team’s confidence, pointing out their resilience throughout a challenging season where they overcame several top European teams.
"I've experienced it, and Simone Inzaghi has too; we know what it’s like. We must remember that we have battled against City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona this season," he noted.
"We’re ready for whatever comes next. We have technical leaders who will steer the locker room in pursuing this magnificent dream," Farris concluded.
