Munich, June 1 (NationPress) Inter Milan is determined to keep their manager, Simone Inzaghi, if he opts to stay at the club. This statement comes from club president Giuseppe Marotta, who stressed that the recent 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final will not sway their decision.
With this victory, Luis Enrique's PSG clinched their inaugural Champions League title, achieving a record margin in the final. A disheartened Inzaghi faced his second defeat at this level, having previously lost narrowly to Manchester City in Istanbul two years ago.
Inzaghi's contract extends until June of next year, and Marotta indicated that talks with the coach will commence shortly. Meanwhile, Italian sources suggest that Inzaghi might leave the club as early as this month, ahead of the Club World Cup taking place in the US from June 14 to July 13.
"This defeat will not have an impact. Inzaghi has a contract for another year, and we had already planned to meet with him this week," Marotta shared with reporters following the loss in Munich. He emphasized that much of the credit for their positive trajectory is attributed to Inzaghi's professionalism and skill set. "If he wishes to stay, we would be delighted to have him," he added.
Marotta also congratulated the new champions and recognized that Inter was decisively outperformed by the Parisians. "Let’s quickly move on and focus on the next challenge, with the upcoming Club World Cup. We will proudly represent Italy alongside Juventus," he concluded.
