Inzamam, Misbah, Mushtaq, and Anwar Join PCB Hall of Fame

New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Mohammad, and Saeed Anwar have been recognized as the latest inductees into the Hall of Fame created by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The PCB announced in a statement that this legendary group was selected by an 11-member independent panel which included other Hall of Famers, female international cricketers, and journalists. This year sees four new inductees for 2024, following a year without any selections in 2023.

“The four legends will be officially welcomed into the PCB Hall of Fame later this year, where they will receive commemorative caps and specially crafted plaques,” the statement added.

Joining the ranks of Abdul Qadir, AH Kardar, Fazal Mahmood, Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Younis Khan, and Zaheer Abbas, Inzamam, Misbah, Mushtaq, and Anwar are now part of this prestigious group.

Inzamam played for Pakistan from 1991 to 2007, contributing to Pakistan’s victory in the 1992 World Cup and becoming the team's top run-scorer in ODIs while also serving as captain. He later held the position of chief selector for Pakistan twice and coached Afghanistan.

Misbah, whose international career spanned from 2001 to 2017, was a member of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup winning team in 2009 and led the team to the top of the ICC Test Team Rankings in 2016. He also served as head coach of Pakistan from 2019 to 2021 and was chief selector during 2019-2020.

Mushtaq, one of the four Mohammed brothers to participate in Test matches, represented Pakistan from 1959 to 1979 and captained the team to its first Test victory in Australia in 1977. He also played in the inaugural 1975 ODI World Cup in England and later coached the national team to the 1999 ODI World Cup final.

Anwar played for Pakistan from 1989 to 2003, establishing himself as a key batsman with a remarkable tally of 31 centuries and 68 half-centuries, including impressive performances in the 1996, 1999, and 2003 ODI World Cups.

“This recognition serves as a tribute to their exceptional contributions to both Pakistan cricket and the global sport. These four icons hold a significant place in Pakistan’s vibrant cricket history. Their efforts not only advanced the sport within the nation but also motivated future generations to aim for excellence,” PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated.

“Their talent, charisma, and steadfast dedication have made them true ambassadors of cricket. The PCB is immensely proud to celebrate their achievements. Pakistan is indeed fortunate to have produced such remarkable players who have displayed their skills and sportsmanship on the world stage.

“I hope that our budding cricketers will look up to these legends and aspire to emulate their success, continuing to enhance Pakistan's status as a cricketing powerhouse,” Naqvi concluded.
