IPL 2025: Carl Hopkinson Takes the Helm as Mumbai Indians' New Fielding Coach

Mumbai, Dec 13 (NationPress) The five-time champions Mumbai Indians have officially appointed Carl Hopkinson as their new fielding coach in preparation for IPL 2025, as announced by the franchise on Friday. Hopkinson takes over from James Pamment, who served as MI’s fielding coach for a commendable seven years.
Pamment, originally from New Zealand, was instrumental in MI’s consecutive title victories in 2019 and 2020. The franchise expressed gratitude towards him, stating, “We would like to thank him and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”
Carl Hopkinson recently completed his tenure as England's long-standing fielding coach, a position he assumed in 2018. He played a significant role in England's triumphant run during the ODI World Cup on home soil in 2019 and the T20 World Cup victory in Australia in November 2022.
Furthermore, Hopkinson served as the head fielding coach for the England U19 team during the 2022 ICC U19 World Cup in the West Indies, where they finished as runners-up to India, reaching the final for the first time since 1998.
During his playing career with Sussex, Hopkinson participated in 64 first-class matches, accumulating 2,705 runs with an average of 27.60, including three centuries. Additionally, he contributed 1,400 runs in 92 List A games and 165 runs in 28 T20 matches, besides playing a pivotal role in Sussex's County Championship victory in 2007.
Hopkinson's coaching journey began with the Sussex squad in the now-defunct Champions League Twenty20, subsequently joining the coaching staff in 2010. He also held the position of Sussex’s second XI Coach from 2012 to 2016 before transitioning into the England setup in 2018.
For IPL 2025, MI will be led by Hardik Pandya as captain, supported by a robust Indian core of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. In last month’s mega auction in Jeddah, MI acquired seasoned overseas talents such as Trent Boult, Will Jacks, Ryan Rickleton, Mitchell Santner, Lizaad Williams, and Reece Topley.
Moreover, they brought in Indian players like Deepak Chahar, Naman Dhir, Robin Minz, Karn Sharma, Raj Angad Bawa, along with lesser-known players like Allah Ghazanfar, Bevon Jacobs, Vignesh Puthur, and Venkata Satyanarayana Raju.
