New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season is gearing up to welcome a plethora of fresh talent, featuring players from diverse backgrounds making their first appearances.
The 18th season of this lucrative league kicks off on March 22, comprising 74 matches across 13 venues, including 12 double-headers, and concluding on May 25.
Let's take a look at some of the standout debutants, emerging from remarkable performances in domestic, youth, and international cricket.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)
The Rajasthan Royals secured the services of teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi for Rs 1.1 crores during last year's mega auction, making him the youngest player in the tournament's history at just 13 years old.
This young batter from Bihar made headlines after scoring 104 runs off a mere 62 balls for India Under-19 in the initial match of a two-match youth Test series against Australia U-19 in Chennai. This feat marked the quickest century ever registered by an Indian in youth Tests and the second-fastest globally.
Suryavanshi also gained attention for his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar at just 12, becoming the youngest player in India’s top first-class tournament. He further solidified his reputation as the youngest player to represent India at the Under-19 level.
The prodigious talent scored a swift 67 off just 36 balls, propelling India into the final of the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2024, where he earned the Player of the Match accolade for his outstanding performance. This was his second consecutive half-century in the tournament after an unbeaten 76 off 46 balls against UAE.
Suryavanshi created another milestone by becoming the youngest Indian cricketer to participate in List-A cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, breaking the previous record held by Ali Akbar, who debuted at 14 years and 51 days old.
Priyansh Arya (Punjab Kings)
Delhi's dynamic opener Priyansh Arya was acquired by Punjab Kings for Rs 3.8 crore during the mega auction after he emerged as the top run-scorer in the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) with a total of 608 runs in ten innings for South Delhi Superstarz.
Arya made a striking impression in the DPL, famously hitting six sixes in one over against North Delhi Strikers.
In the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Arya excelled as Delhi’s leading run-scorer, amassing 222 runs in seven innings with an average of 31.71 and a remarkable strike rate of 166.91. Although he was shortlisted for the IPL 2024 auction, he remained unsold.
Bevon Jacobs (Mumbai Indians)
The uncapped New Zealand batter Bevon Jacobs joined the Mumbai Indians following a stellar 157-run performance for Auckland against Central Districts in the Plunket Shield 2024-25.
He showcased his talent with a dazzling 20-ball 42 on debut for Canterbury in the Super Smash 2023-24. Almost a year later, he scored fifties in both innings of his first-class debut for Auckland.
The 22-year-old right-hander has a T20 century to his name, achieving 100 off just 40 balls for South Brisbane during the Queensland T20 Max 2023-24 competition.
Additionally, Jacobs ranked among the top five run-scorers in the Super Smash 2024-25, consistently contributing runs in the Ford Trophy 2024-25.
To date, he has accumulated 423 T20 runs across 20 matches with a highest score of 90 not out.
Josh Inglis (Punjab Kings)
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis enters his inaugural IPL season as one of the top-performing batters. He will be representing Punjab Kings after being sold for Rs 2.6 crore in the mega auction.
Following his first ODI century in the Champions Trophy, where he played a pivotal role in Australia's chase of 352 against England, Inglis also made headlines with a Test century on debut in Galle. These two remarkable performances placed him among an elite group of Australians achieving international centuries across all formats. One of his T20I centuries was against India in 2023, where he faced a lineup of IPL bowlers, including his new teammate Arshdeep Singh.
Inglis has participated in 29 T20Is thus far, scoring 706 runs with a top score of 110.
Jacob Bethell (Royal Challengers Bengaluru)
Among the surprise selections for RCB in the mega auction was English all-rounder Jacob Bethell. The left-handed batter, who also bowls left-arm orthodox spin, secured a Rs 2.6 crore contract and is expected to fill the roles of all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Will Jacks, who were not retained after IPL 2024.
Bethell boasts an impressive strike rate of 167.96 in T20Is and is capable of batting in both the top and middle orders. He has also been utilized as a finisher in his limited appearances in ODI cricket.
He made his T20I and ODI debuts against Australia in September and debuted in Tests against New Zealand in Christchurch shortly after securing his first IPL contract.
The year 2024 has proven to be a breakout year for Bethell, who bats left-handed and bowls left-arm spin, as he showcased excellent performances in the T20 Blast for Warwickshire and the Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix, leading to his selection for England across all formats.
He further attracted the attention of T20 franchises worldwide, signing contracts with Melbourne Renegades, Paarl Royals, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Bethell recorded his first Big Bash League half-century in a match between Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes in January.
