Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 15 (NationPress) The Bengal opening batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has been on the cusp of making his international debut several times, along with Ben Sears from New Zealand and South Africa's Ethan Bosch, are among the latest entrants added to the auction list for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Monday night.
Easwaran, who had a stint with the Indian team during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the 2024-25 season, is one of the 19 new players included in the auction roster. Ethan, sibling of South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch, has represented South Africa in one ODI, while Ben Sears has made appearances for the Black Caps in one Test and four ODIs.
The updated list features Virandeep Singh from Malaysia, Chris Green from Australia, Kyle Verreynne from South Africa, and Blessing Muzarabani from Zimbabwe, among others, who will also be part of the auction set to occur in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
It includes several uncapped players, primarily from India, such as Kerala's wicketkeeper-batter K.L. Shrijith. With these 19 additions, the total number of players in the auction pool has increased to 369.
Attention will be focused on stars like Cameron Green, Liam Livingstone, and Ravi Bishnoi as ten franchises prepare for the IPL 2026 auction, scheduled to take place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. This will mark the third consecutive time the IPL auction is being held outside India, following Dubai (2024) and Jeddah (2025).
All ten teams are poised to spend generously in pursuit of top-tier talent to build a squad capable of clinching the IPL 2026 title. There are 77 available slots, including 31 for international players. The three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lead the way with 13 vacancies, trailed by the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) with ten.
Out of an extensive list of 1,355 players, 359 have been shortlisted, comprising 244 Indians and 115 from overseas. Forty players have entered at the maximum base price of Rs 2 crore, with Bishnoi and Venkatesh Iyer being the only Indians in that elite group.
Green, Australia’s seam-bowling all-rounder, is anticipated to be the most sought-after player due to the high demand in a mini IPL auction, with projections suggesting bids could exceed Rs 25 crore.
In addition to Bishnoi and Green, the English pair of Liam Livingstone and Jamie Smith, along with New Zealand pacer Matt Henry, wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert, and South African batsman David Miller, are expected to draw significant interest from all ten franchises, as is Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who was released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
