New Delhi, April 28 (NationPress) Former England captain and Gujarat Titans wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler asserts that the Indian Premier League (IPL) serves as an extraordinary platform for emerging talent to gain insights from seasoned players and coaches.
Buttler has been exceptional for GT this season, amassing 356 runs in eight matches, including three half-centuries. He narrowly missed his potential eighth century by just three runs against the Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad.
"It's remarkable exposure for young players to showcase their skills amid high pressure and expectations. As overseas players, we can’t fully comprehend the intense pressure they encounter, but they manage it superbly. Shubman is a classy player and a composed leader—an excellent communicator who connects with everyone. The IPL is truly an incredible academy for young talent, allowing them to learn from top players and coaches while encouraging them to remain authentic," Buttler shared in JioHotstar's special series 'Gen Gold'.
The wicketkeeper-batter was the highest-priced player for GT, having been acquired for Rs 15.75 crore in last year's mega auction.
Regarding his transition from Rajasthan Royals to Gujarat Titans, he remarked, "Playing for Gujarat Titans feels distinct after spending numerous seasons with Rajasthan Royals and cherishing great memories. However, I'm eager for something new—it keeps things exciting and fresh. The atmosphere here is quite relaxed and enjoyable. I've loved getting to know Ashish Nehra, who fosters a fun, positive environment, and Shubman Gill, who is an impressive, calm young captain."
The 34-year-old praised cricket director Vikram Solanki and head coach Ashish Nehra for establishing a laid-back atmosphere in the dressing room.
"I knew Vikram a bit from England, having played against him and during his time at Surrey, so it’s nice to have that connection here. I’d heard a lot about Ashish Nehra too—he appears animated on the boundary yet manages everything adeptly. One of the greatest aspects of the IPL is meeting new people, learning various styles, and I’m thrilled to work under them," he stated.
On his relationship with former Rajasthan Royals teammate Sanju Samson, Buttler said, "I’ve built a great rapport with Sanju over the years, learning a lot from him and observing his approach. While time moves on and I’m now with a new franchise, I’ll always cherish the friendships and memories we created—they’ll endure."
The Gujarat Titans are set to face off against the Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.
