ISL 2024-25: Cummings' Last-Minute Strike Secures Victory for Mohun Bagan SG Against Chennaiyin FC

Kolkata, Nov 30 (NationPress) Chennaiyin FC exhibited a commendable performance against Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium in their Indian Super League 2024-25 match, but ultimately suffered a narrow defeat due to a last-minute goal.
The first half was an engaging battle with the Marina Machans challenging their rivals. Prior to the match, head coach Owen Coyle had asserted that his team possessed the capability to triumph in significant encounters.
They delivered on that promise, as the tandem of Lalrinliana Hnamte and Ryan Edwards created notable goal-scoring chances in the 25th and 30th minutes, respectively. Following an industrious sequence of play, Hnamte decided to take a shot from distance, but it was thwarted by a well-structured Mariners’ defense.
Five minutes later, Edwards launched a powerful header from the center of the box following a cross from Pachuau Laldinpuia. The latter demonstrated excellent awareness by providing a headed pass to Edwards, but the defender's attempt was denied.
Eight minutes later, Subhasish Bose took a corner for the home team that reached Liston Colaco at the edge of the box. From outside the 18-yard area, Colaco unleashed a powerful shot that went high and wide to the right. The match proceeded into the second half with neither team managing to score.
In the second half, Chennaiyin maintained their momentum, keeping the hosts pinned in their half while remaining vigilant defensively. Nawaz was called into action just six minutes after the restart, positioning himself perfectly to block a long-range effort from Alberto Rodriguez.
As the game progressed, Nawaz continued to deny Chennaiyin’s attacking attempts, making another crucial save from a long-range shot. Moments later, Irfan Yadwad came tantalizingly close to scoring with a stunning long-range curl, only to be thwarted by the goalkeeper. Nawaz made another significant save in the 83rd minute, but the determined Chennaiyin defense was finally breached in the 86th minute when Jason Cummings struck the top corner.
Chennaiyin will aim to recover from this setback when they face East Bengal at the Marina Arena on December 7.
