ISL 2024-25: FC Goa Aims to Sustain Unbeaten Streak Against NorthEast United

Guwahati, Jan 13 (NationPress) FC Goa will face off against NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday. FC Goa is determined to extend their unbeaten record away from home in the league, while NorthEast United FC aims to sustain their impressive home performance against the Gaurs.

NorthEast United FC has been on a strong run, remaining unbeaten in their previous four league matches (W2 D2), scoring nine goals and conceding only three during this period. In contrast, FC Goa is enjoying a remarkable seven-game unbeaten away streak (W4 D3), which ties their longest run in the competition’s history.

In their last seven home matches, NorthEast United FC has recorded two wins and two losses, with the other three resulting in draws. The home team boasts the title of the highest-scoring side in the ISL, having netted 30 goals, spearheaded by Alaaeddine Ajaraie, who has scored 15 times. This indicates their competitive nature at home, although the results have not consistently favored them.

As it stands, the Gaurs occupy the fourth position on the table with 26 points from 14 matches, achieving seven victories and five draws. The Highlanders are right behind in fifth place, amassing 23 points from 15 games, with six wins and five draws. FC Goa is not far behind in terms of goal-scoring, having netted 28 goals, with Armando Sadiku contributing nine of those.

Defensively, both FC Goa and NorthEast United FC have shown similar capabilities, conceding 19 and 21 goals, respectively, this season. Both teams will be keen to fortify their positions in the top six, as there is only a six-point gap between sixth-placed Mumbai City FC (23) and ninth-placed Kerala Blasters FC (17).

NorthEast United FC's assistant coach Naushad Moosa urged his players to embrace patience for the upcoming match. “FC Goa is a very good team. It will be a challenging and tactical game. We will need to exhibit a lot of patience,” he stated.

FC Goa's head coach Manolo Marquez commended his squad for achieving positive results in recent matches. “Post-break, it has been tough for teams to secure points. We cannot be complacent about our position, but we have accrued more points during this period,” he noted.

In their 21 ISL encounters, FC Goa has claimed victory in six matches, while NorthEast United FC has triumphed four times, with 11 matches ending in draws.
