ISL: Punjab FC Aims for Third Straight Win Against Jamshedpur FC

Jamshedpur, Dec 12 (NationPress) The in-form Punjab FC is set to chase their third consecutive victory as they take on Jamshedpur FC in an upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) match at the JRD Tata Sports Complex this Friday.

A win would help the Shers strengthen their hold on third place in the league standings, while also putting pressure on the current leaders, Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Bengaluru FC, as they have games in hand. Meanwhile, Jamshedpur FC has secured five victories out of their nine matches, placing them eighth in the table with 15 points.

In a pre-match statement, Punjab's head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis remarked, “We are heading into an away match, and with a packed stadium, it will pose a challenge for both squads. We are two teams with comparable strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately, the side that desires the win more will claim the three points.

“Our approach is straightforward; we maintain our focus on executing our game plan from the very beginning, capitalizing on every opportunity. Competing in front of a full stadium, even as the away team, serves as a source of motivation rather than stress. For Indian players, it’s a moment of celebration. Each match provides a clean slate. The only elements that carry forward are our drive, our mindset, and the points we collect.”

The Shers demonstrated their prowess in their last outing, defeating newcomers Mohammedan SC with a score of 2-0 in New Delhi, while The Red Miners triumphed over the same team 3-1 at Jamshedpur.

So far this season, Punjab FC has only allowed nine goals, making them the second-best defensive team in the league, whereas Jamshedpur FC has conceded 20 goals, which is the second-highest total. The Shers also lead in limiting the number of touches for opponents in their penalty area and have allowed the fewest attempts on their goal.

During the pre-match press conference, Punjab midfielder Leon Augustine expressed, “I gain confidence from the trust the coach has in me. I’m prepared to deliver my best in whatever position or role the team requires. The squad is in excellent shape right now, and it’s crucial to stay confident, remain grounded, and keep up the positive momentum. Tomorrow's game will be tough, but we can secure all three points if we execute our strategies effectively.”

In their previous season, the initial encounter between the two teams ended in a goalless draw at The Furnace, while The Red Miners claimed a 4-0 victory in the return fixture held in New Delhi.

Punjab FC aims to continue their impressive form and enhance their standing in the league, while Jamshedpur FC seeks to achieve greater consistency to maintain their playoff aspirations.
