New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) Punjab FC aims to clinch all three points as they prepare to take on the fourth-placed Jamshedpur FC in a vital match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25, set to occur at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The squad is eager to return to victory after enduring consecutive draws against NorthEast United and Mumbai City FC. A triumph against the Red Miners would bring them closer to playoff contention, especially with several matches still to play this season.

The Shers currently sit in ninth place, accumulating 20 points from 15 games, while Jamshedpur FC holds the fourth spot with 28 points from 16 matches.

Discussing the upcoming match, PFC Head Coach Panagiotis Dilmperis stated, “We are diligently working towards our objective of qualifying for the playoffs. The outcome of the match in hand is in our control. Despite our recent losses, I have no grievances regarding the team’s performances. We have been generating numerous chances but struggling to convert them and secure wins. Fortunately, our full squad will be available tomorrow after a lengthy absence, and I hope we can return to our winning form as we did at the season's start.”

Punjab FC will also benefit from the return of their Head Coach on the sidelines, along with Nikhil Prabhu and Khaimingthang Lhungdim, who all faced suspensions during the last match against Mumbai City FC.

Jamshedpur FC, who managed a 1-1 draw against table-toppers Mohun Bagan Super Giant in Matchweek 17, suffered a surprising defeat against 12th-placed Hyderabad FC, losing 3-2 in their last outing. Luka Majcen continues his impressive scoring streak with six goals, including one against Mumbai City, as well as contributing three assists this season.

Ezequiel Vidal has netted four goals, while Asmir Suljic and Filip Mrzljak have each scored three. With the addition of new signing Petros Giakoumakis and the Indian attacking lineup featuring Nihal Sudeesh, Leon Augustine, and Ricky Shabong, the Shers are optimistic about outscoring their rivals.

The team’s defensive statistics have been outstanding this season, with Nikhil Prabhu, Tekcham Abhishek Singh, and Suresh Meitei ranking in the top five for interceptions, achieving 40, 33, and 28 respectively.

Punjab FC has conceded only 21 goals this season, boasting the third-best defensive record among all teams and having faced the fewest shots on goal.

During the pre-match press conference, defender Khaimingthang Lhungdim expressed, “My experience from playing in the ISL for the first time last season has significantly improved my performance this year. I feel more confident now, and with the assistance of the coaches, I aim to continue contributing to the team. We’ve put in a lot of effort, and the team is confident for tomorrow’s match. We hope to secure all three points and progress towards our playoff ambitions.”

As the season approaches its critical phase, both teams are eager to regain winning momentum. With much at stake, every point will be vital for both squads, promising an exhilarating match.
