Nearly 400 athletes from 43 nations, including a 35-member Indian team, will participate in 15 events across the three disciplines of Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun over the ensuing week, aiming to assert early dominance ahead of the prestigious ISSF World Championships later this year.
In the first leg that concluded last week in Buenos Aires, Argentina, India secured second place behind China, winning four golds and a total of eight medals. Both teams will be eager to rekindle their rivalry in Lima.
On Tuesday, Indian spectators will focus on competitors like Manu Bhaker, Suruchi, and Sainyam in the women’s air pistol, while Saurabh Chaudhary, Varun Tomar, and Ravinder will aim for gold in the men’s air pistol.
All champions from the Argentina World Cup will showcase their skills in Lima. Additionally, Czechia has fielded a formidable team, including Jiri Privratsky, who missed the first leg in Argentina.
Prominent shooting nations like China, USA, Italy, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Finland, Chinese Taipei, and Australia will maintain a significant presence in Lima, similar to their participation in Argentina. Furthermore, the hosts have assembled a robust 37-member team, while other Latin American countries such as Brazil, Guatemala, and Chile will also strive to leverage their familiarity with local conditions.
The first qualifying rounds (50 targets) of the men’s and women’s skeet competitions will also commence on Tuesday, with Indian expectations resting on Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Gill, and Gurjoat Khangura in the men’s event, while Raiza Dhillon, Ganemant Sekhon, and Darshna Rathore carry the hopes for the women’s skeet.
