Day five, occurring on Saturday, features finals for both the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle, promising an exciting showdown with six Indian participants aiming to boost the tally of two gold, one silver, and one bronze medals earned so far.
This marks the second consecutive day in which India has missed out on a medal, although Raiza Dhillon made her World Cup final debut, finishing a commendable fifth in the women’s Skeet event.
On the opening day, the duo of Suruchi and Saurabh Chaudhary clinched gold by defeating the Chinese team of Yao Qianxun and Hu Kai with a score of 17-9 in the 10m air pistol mixed team title match. This victory marked Suruchi’s third ISSF World Cup gold and Saurabh’s ninth overall, including his fifth mixed team gold.
The pair qualified for the gold medal match at the Las Palmas range with a total score of 580, with Suruchi scoring slightly higher than Saurabh. The Chinese pair achieved a top qualification score of 585.
During the final match, the Chinese team initially took a lead, going ahead 2-6 and then 4-8, but a timeout called by coach Samaresh Jung shifted the match's momentum.
