Bhopal, Nov 30 (NationPress) Digvijay Pratap Singh mirrored his recent achievements at the ITF M25 Tennis Tournament in Bhopal, narrowly defeating his academy colleague Nitin Kumar Sinha with scores of 6-4, 7-6 in a fiercely contested final. This victory propels both players forward with exceptional momentum as they prepare for the upcoming event in Gwalior on the ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour ($15k) where they aim to maintain their form.
A day after Roundglass Tennis Academy’s Praneel Sharma conquered fellow trainee Aashravya Mehra to secure the ITF Juniors J100 singles title in Delhi, the academy celebrated another success; this time within the professional circuit.
Alongside his impressive singles journey, Nitin also advanced to the doubles final in the same tournament, ultimately falling short in a nail-biting match. Partnering with SD Prajwal Dev, he pushed the duo of Aryan Shah and Atharva Sharma to the edge before succumbing 6-1, 4-6, 6-10.
Ranked No. 23 nationally, Digvijay commenced his campaign with a resilient three-set victory over Freek van Donselaar from the Netherlands, later showcasing his prowess by defeating compatriot Kabir Hans 6-2, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, he mounted an impressive comeback after losing the first set, overcoming Rohan Mehra 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. His semifinal against Siddhant Banthia concluded prematurely, as Banthia was forced to retire during the first set while trailing 3-1.
Sunday’s final was only the second encounter between Digvijay and Nitin on the professional circuit; their first meeting in Delhi in 2021 saw Nitin take the win. However, this time, Digvijay claimed the victory.
The eighth-seeded Nitin had his own remarkable journey, battling through a challenging second-round match against Arjun Rathi from Roundglass Tennis Academy, coming back from a set down in a fiercely contested duel. He then delivered one of the tournament's standout performances, defeating the third seed Grigoriy Lomakin from Kazakhstan in straight sets to reach the semifinals.
In the semifinals, he faced a familiar opponent: doubles partner and top seed SD Prajwal Dev. As anticipated, the match went the full distance, with Nitin exhibiting remarkable composure in critical moments to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Both Nitin and Digvijay are training at the Roundglass Tennis Academy in Chandigarh under the esteemed coach Aditya Sachdeva, who expressed his satisfaction with the results.
“With our juniors dominating the singles and doubles titles in Delhi earlier this week, this achievement in Bhopal adds another dimension of confidence to the efforts at the Roundglass Tennis Academy,” said Sachdeva, the Technical Director of the academy.
“Success across all levels—juniors to men—demonstrates that our methodology is effective. This is merely the beginning, and we will aim to establish an even stronger system moving forward.”
The duo is set to compete again on December 2 in the first round of the Roundglass ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour in Gwalior, with Hitesh Chauhan—India’s top-ranked junior player—also joining them in the main draw.
