Ahmedabad, March 25 (NationPress) The middle-order batsman for Punjab Kings, Shashank Singh, disclosed that his captain, Shreyas Iyer, advised him from the very first ball he faced to disregard the potential milestone for Iyer and concentrate on his performance.

Iyer maintained his remarkable form from the Champions Trophy into the current season, which was highlighted when he struck his first ball faced for a brilliant boundary over mid-off, achieving a stunning strike rate of 230.95. His innings included nine sixes and five boundaries, finishing at an impressive unbeaten 97.

Although Iyer was on the verge of his first IPL century, Shashank hit five boundaries in the final over and did not rotate the strike, contributing to Punjab’s substantial score of 243/5 in 20 overs.

“Indeed, it was a solid cameo. However, observing Shreyas motivated me even more. To be completely honest – from ball one, Shreyas said, ‘don’t worry about my hundred!’ My focus was on watching the ball and reacting accordingly. I aim to ensure I hit boundaries. When you’re batting at that number, there’s a higher chance you’ll miss a good hit. I’m aware of the shots I can confidently play, prioritizing my strengths over my weaknesses,” Shashank mentioned during the mid-game interview.

Debutant Priyansh Arya ignited the excitement with a swift contribution of 47 runs off 23 balls, prior to Iyer joining in. Despite losing quick wickets in the middle overs, Marcus Stoinis and Iyer formed a 57-run partnership before Shashank and the captain collaborated for a staggering 71-run partnership off merely 28 balls.
