Dubai, March 10 (NationPress) Veteran spin allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has been awarded the Fielder of the Match medal for his remarkable bullet throws during the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on Sunday.

During his bowling spell, Jadeja conceded only 30 runs in 10 overs and claimed the crucial wicket of Tom Latham, helping India limit New Zealand to 251/7 in their 50 overs. Subsequently, captain Rohit Sharma led the chase with a top score of 76, while KL Rahul contributed an unbeaten 34, securing the Men in Blue their third Champions Trophy victory with a four-wicket win over New Zealand.

Following the triumph, fielding coach T Dilip praised India's overall fielding performance during the tournament and announced Jadeja as the recipient of the fielding medal.

While India showcased impressive fielding throughout the tournament, their performance in the final was not without flaws, as they dropped four chances. Shami fingertipped a catch, Shreyas Iyer missed a chance to dismiss Rachin Ravindra, Rohit let a one-handed catch slip at midwicket, and Gill dropped a catch in the 38th over.

"No effort on the field is ever too small. Every single commitment contributes to a common goal, and that goal is right in front of us: 'We are the Champions'. Fielding encompasses two aspects; one side emphasizes intensity, aggression, attitude, and reflexes, while the other highlights camaraderie, trust, and brotherhood among teammates. We have demonstrated this throughout the tournament, both as brothers and in terms of intensity," Dilip stated.

This victory in Dubai cements India’s status as the most successful team in the history of the Champions Trophy, achieved in front of a stadium predominantly filled with Indian supporters.

This marks India's first title in an ICC ODI event in 12 years, providing a much-needed boost for the Indian team and its passionate fans after falling short in the 2023 ODI World Cup on home soil.
