New Delhi, Sep 9 (NationPress) All-rounder Jalaj Saxena has made the decision to part ways with Kerala after nine seasons, marking the close of an era characterized by consistency and leadership within the state side.

The seasoned cricketer, who embarked on his domestic journey with Madhya Pradesh in the 2005-06 season, transitioned to Kerala ahead of the 2016-17 season and represented them in a total of 125 matches across different formats until the 2024-25 season.

In an emotional announcement on Instagram, Saxena expressed, "It's never easy to articulate my feelings, but today I want to share something deeply personal. I have played my last game in Kerala colors, and that thought still feels surreal. Voicing this brings about a unique blend of emotions - gratitude, pride, and a slight ache. Throughout the years, this team has provided me with more than just cricket. It has given me brothers, friends, and a family that supported me during every high and low."

Saxena served as Kerala’s backbone for nearly a decade, accumulating 3,153 runs and 352 wickets across formats. In first-class cricket for Kerala, he amassed 2,252 runs in 58 matches, including three centuries, while claiming 269 wickets at an impressive average of 20.68, which featured 23 five-wicket hauls. His 269 wickets rank as the second-most by any Kerala player in first-class cricket, trailing only behind KN Ananthapadmanabhan’s 310.

The 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season was notably historic for Saxena. During Kerala’s journey to the final, where they ultimately fell short against Vidarbha, he became the first player in the tournament’s history to achieve the remarkable double of 6,000 runs and 400 wickets.

Reflecting on his journey, he stated, "I've put in blood, sweat, and tears - everything I had - for this journey, and in return, it bestowed upon me memories and bonds that will last a lifetime."

Saxena departs from Kerala with a remarkable overall first-class record of 7,060 runs and 484 wickets, featuring 34 five-wicket hauls. Despite his ongoing excellence over nearly two decades, a call-up to the national team has consistently eluded him.

He did not reveal his next destination but emphasized that this is not the end. "Cricket has taught me that every ending is merely a new beginning. My heart will always beat for Kerala, and I will carry these memories with me wherever I go."
