Nelson, Nov 9 (NationPress) New Zealand's captain Mitchell Santner praised Kyle Jamieson for his poise during the final over, leading his team to victory against the West Indies on Sunday. In a thrilling series of matches, the Men in Black triumphed over the Men in Maroon, taking a 2-1 lead in the ongoing T20I series.
The Kiwis secured a narrow nine-run win in the third of five T20Is, successfully defending a target of 178 runs. After batting first, New Zealand scored 177-9, buoyed by Conway's 56 and Daryl Mitchell's 41 runs. Ish Sodhi and Jacob Duffy each delivered stellar performances, taking three wickets apiece to ensure their team crossed the finish line.
Reflecting on the players’ performances, Santner remarked during the post-match presentation, “Yes, there was. I think that was the most satisfying aspect. Different players stepping up at different times is crucial, especially in a five-match series. It was a scrappy win, but we're glad to come out on top.”
“Facing a team that bats so deep is always a challenge. They possess power throughout their lineup. Our primary goal was to keep taking wickets, despite having a partnership from positions 8 and 10. We could have scored at least 190, perhaps. However, our bowlers adapted well, especially when the conditions changed; Ish was phenomenal again. They utilized a variety of deliveries, including bouncers, slow balls, and yorkers. It was great to see,” he added.
Once again, Jamieson excelled, successfully defending 12 runs in the final over, securing another victory in the series for his team. The pacer delivered crucial last-over spells in consecutive matches, helping the Kiwis win back-to-back games in the five-match series.
Continuing to praise Jamieson’s efforts, Santner stated, “The more you put yourself in these situations, the more you learn. KJ’s done it twice in two days; he might not do it every day, but that experience is invaluable for upcoming challenges, such as a World Cup scenario. The only issue for KJ is that if he keeps performing so well, he’ll have to keep delivering. Nonetheless, our bowlers were exceptional as a unit.”
