Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Chandigarh, March 31 (NationPress) South African all-rounder Marco Jansen emphasized his dedication to the team's success, stating that his main goal is to always give his best effort to secure victories for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they kick off their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
"For me personally, it's about consistently wanting to come here and deliver my best while positioning the team for success,” Jansen remarked prior to the game.
The South African all-rounder shared that the break following the T20 World Cup provided him a chance to enjoy valuable time with his family before heading back to India.
“It was wonderful. I spent time with my family, including my sisters, my mom, my dad, and my brother, who was playing cricket back home. I also spent a few days at the farm and enjoyed some time in the bush before returning to India,” he explained.
Jansen acknowledged that his growth as a player stemmed from learning under various coaches and collaborating with teammates in franchise cricket.
“I believe the coaching staff has been incredibly beneficial to me. Working with diverse coaches around the world and absorbing their insights has been invaluable. Additionally, the domestic players in the IPL last year, especially Arshdeep and Shreyas Iyer from a captaincy perspective, have greatly contributed to my development,” he added.
With experience in several IPL seasons, Jansen feels his grasp of Indian playing conditions has notably advanced.
“I think that playing cricket in India has significantly enhanced my ability to perform better and achieve consistency in these conditions. I remember struggling with bounce and spin when I was younger. However, spending time here and participating in the IPL over the years has been very beneficial in overcoming those challenges,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings had an impressive run in IPL 2025, finishing as runners-up, marking one of their finest performances in the tournament's history.
During IPL 2025, Jansen also had a commendable season, taking 16 wickets at an average of 27.13.
