Jay Shah, ICC Chairman, Engages with CEO of Brisbane 2032 Olympics Organising Committee

Brisbane, Dec 12 (NationPress) The chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, convened with Cindy Hook, the CEO of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (OCOG) on Thursday.

Shah provided an insight into his meeting with Hook on his X account, stating, "A thrilling era beckons for Cricket’s role within the Olympic movement - a meeting with the @Brisbane_2032 organizing committee in Brisbane, Australia today."

This meeting underscores the ICC's ambition to maintain the sport's presence in the Olympic calendar following its acceptance into the Olympic program for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, which signifies the sport's remarkable comeback after its singular appearance in the 1900 Olympics.

Having taken on the role of ICC chairman on December 1, Shah emphasized the importance of making cricket 'accessible to a broader audience while ensuring its growth aligns with the expectations of fans globally' in his inaugural public statement.

"As we embark on a transformative journey for cricket, I am dedicated to collaborating closely with the ICC team and member nations to enhance the sport’s global presence and develop new pathways for its progress," Shah stated.

"My vision encompasses everything from grassroots initiatives to prominent events, aiming to make cricket available to more individuals while ensuring its advancement resonates with the aspirations of fans from all over the world," he added.

The 2032 Olympics are scheduled to take place across 37 proposed venues in the host city of Brisbane, with several co-host cities in Queensland, complemented by selected venues in Melbourne and Sydney—two renowned Australian cities already inscribed in Olympic history.

The Olympic and Paralympic Games Brisbane 2032 are anticipated to include 37 proposed venues, designated to host 28 Olympic and 22 Paralympic sports.
