Dubai, June 27 (NationPress) West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been penalized with a fine of 15 percent of his match fee and received one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the opening day of the inaugural match of the series against Australia in Bridgetown on Wednesday, according to an official statement from the ICC.
The ICC found that Seales infringed upon Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article pertains to 'using language, actions or gestures that could belittle or incite an aggressive reaction from a batter following their dismissal in an international match.'
Furthermore, a demerit point has been added to Seales' disciplinary record, marking it as his second offence within a 24-month timeframe, which now totals to two demerit points, as confirmed by the ICC.
The incident took place during the 55th over of Australia’s innings when Seales, after dismissing captain Pat Cummins, made a gesture towards the pavilion.
The ICC noted that Seales acknowledged the breach and accepted the penalty suggested by Javagal Srinath from the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, thus eliminating the necessity for a formal hearing.
The on-field umpires, Richard Kettleborough and Nitin Menon, alongside third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite, were responsible for leveling the charge.
Previously, Seales had incurred a demerit point during a Test match against Bangladesh in Kingston, Jamaica, on December 3, 2024.
Level 1 breaches typically incur penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a maximum of 50 percent of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
When approached for comments at the end of day one, Seales downplayed the incident, stating, 'It wasn’t significant and stemmed from a bit of frustration. Pat made a couple of good shots off me, and I just pointed him towards the dressing room; there wasn't anything more to it.'
On day two, Seales continued to impress as he bowled out Josh Inglis for 12, marking his sixth wicket of the match, with Travis Head (13) and Beau Webster (19) set to resume on Friday.
