Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hampshire, March 5 (NationPress) The West Indies pace sensation Jayden Seales has officially joined Hampshire for the initial segment of the 2026 County Championship.
This 24-year-old fast bowler steps in for Michael Neser, who was recently called back by Cricket Australia. Seales will be playing alongside renowned West Indian icons such as Malcolm Marshall, Gordon Greenidge, Fidel Edwards, and others who have left their mark at Hampshire.
“While we’re certainly saddened to see Michael Neser leave our squad for the summer, we are thrilled to welcome Jayden Seales. He is a bowler known for his pace and skill, coupled with a relentless drive to perform. Joining the legacy of distinguished West Indian cricketers at our club is an exciting prospect, and we eagerly anticipate his contributions at the season's start,” stated Giles White, Hampshire's Director of Cricket.
Seales comes with prior County Championship experience, having played ten matches for Sussex, where he took 39 wickets and played a pivotal role in promoting the club to Division One in 2024. He boasts a commendable average of 28.46, with his best figures being 5-29 against Derbyshire in 2024.
Debuting internationally in 2021, Seales had previously only competed in one First-Class match. Since then, he has excelled for the West Indies, with his inaugural international five-wicket haul occurring against Pakistan in Jamaica, earning him the Player of the Match title.
Having represented his country 64 times across all formats, he leads the West Indies pace attack. Recently, he participated in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 held in India and Sri Lanka, where the West Indies fell short of the semifinals, losing to India in their final Super 8 match.
The Utilita Bowl will witness the return of first-class cricket on April 3, as Hampshire faces Essex in their opening home match in Division One of the County Championship.
