New Delhi, Sep 5 (NationPress) John Stones has opted out of the England squad as a precautionary measure. The Manchester City defender, now in his tenth season with the club, has played in all three of Man City's Premier League matches thus far.
He was named in the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia. England's manager Thomas Tuchel announced this development during his press briefing.
“Regrettably, John Stones [has] just departed. He arrived at the camp with some minor muscle concerns and did not improve as anticipated, leading to his departure this morning. We cannot afford to take any risks against Andorra or, unfortunately, against Serbia,” he stated.
Stones' exit adds to the recent modifications in the Three Lions' roster, with AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah being included in the senior squad.
The duo joined St. George’s Park on Tuesday as part of Thomas Tuchel’s team, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton unable to report due to injury.
Midfielder Loftus-Cheek last represented the Three Lions in November 2018, holding 10 caps to his name.
U21 EURO-winning defender Quansah has previously been in senior squad selections but has yet to earn a cap.
England will continue their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying journey with a home match against Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, September 6, followed by an away game against Serbia in Belgrade on Tuesday, September 9.
