New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) Justice Arun Mishra, a distinguished former Supreme Court Judge, has officially been appointed as the new Ombudsman and Ethics Officer for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as of Thursday.
This confirmation came when the official BCCI website listed his name for these dual responsibilities. Justice Mishra served on the Supreme Court bench from July 7, 2014, to September 2, 2020, before retiring.
Following his retirement, he was appointed as the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on June 2, 2021, and is expected to serve in this capacity until June 1, 2024. Born on September 3, 1955, in Gwalior, Mishra practiced as a lawyer from 1978 to 1999, specializing in various legal matters including constitutional and criminal law in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
He was also the Chairman of the Bar Council of India from 1998 to 1999, making him the youngest individual to hold that position. Mishra was appointed a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on October 25, 1999, and went on to serve as the Chief Justice of both the Rajasthan High Court from November 26, 2010, until his tenure as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court starting December 14, 2012.
The inaugural Ombudsman of the BCCI was Justice Ajit Prakash Shah, a former Chief Justice of the Delhi and Madras High Courts, who took on the role in 2015. Subsequently, Justice D K Jain, a former judge of the Supreme Court, was appointed as the new BCCI Ombudsman and Ethics Officer in February 2019 and served until 2021.
