New Delhi, July 2 (NationPress) Indian hurdler Jyothi Yarraji has revealed that she has suffered a knee injury during her training sessions, which has led to a suspension of her 2025 season.
The 25-year-old athlete is currently in consultation with her medical team to evaluate her condition and will follow their advice for her recovery.
"An unexpected injury to my knee during training a few days ago has forced me to put my season on hold. I'm collaborating with my medical team to explore my options and decide on the next steps," Jyothi stated on her Instagram.
"Injuries are an inevitable part of an athlete's journey. I perceive this as just another hurdle to overcome, and with all your encouragement and blessings, I will return even stronger," she added.
Jyothi made headlines by breaking the national record in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 12.96 at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, in May. She also clinched victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Taiwan Open international athletics competition last month.
The national record holder clocked 12.99 seconds to win gold at the Taipei Municipal Stadium. Her national record remains at 12.78 seconds.
This marks the second injury setback for the talented hurdler. In April, shortly before the Federation Cup in Kochi, Yarraji faced an unexpected hamstring injury that disrupted her training schedule. Nevertheless, she managed to achieve a time of 13.23 seconds to win the women’s 100m hurdles in Kochi.
She kicked off the 2025 athletics season strongly, breaking the 60m indoor hurdles record at the Meeting de Nantes Métropole in France, surpassing her previous record by nearly a tenth of a second. She also secured gold medals in both the hurdles and the women’s 200m event at the National Games 2025 in Uttarakhand.
This latest knee injury is concerning, particularly as Yarraji has yet to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships set to be held in Tokyo this September.
