IPL 2026: Kaif Urges MI to Maximize Rohit Sharma's Potential
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 26 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has asserted that Rohit Sharma should remain on the field for the entire duration of a T20 match rather than being designated as an Impact Player by the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Rohit, who holds the record for the highest runs scored by a MI player in IPL history, was frequently utilized as an Impact Player in the previous season. Kaif argues that this was a misstep, as Hardik Pandya needed Rohit’s support, especially in the second qualifier against Punjab Kings, which MI lost after a stellar performance by Shreyas Iyer.
In a tweet shared on Thursday, Kaif emphasized that MI must take full advantage of a fully fit Rohit, stating he cannot be merely an Impact Player. He believes that the five-time IPL champion’s presence will be crucial in tense moments and will provide invaluable assistance to captain Hardik Pandya.
“Mumbai Indians should maximize the potential of a healthier and more agile Rohit Sharma. He should not be relegated to just an impact player; MI will rely on him during critical junctures. Furthermore, his insights will be incredibly beneficial for captain Hardik Pandya. In last year’s Qualifier 2 against Kings XI, Hardik truly needed Rohit by his side while Shreyas Iyer was on a roll. Rohit’s full engagement in matches will also enhance his batting performance,” Kaif remarked in a tweet on X.
Last season was challenging for Rohit, as he managed to score only 240 runs. The opener is eager to turn things around and make a more significant impact in the upcoming season.
As per the 20-match schedule released by the BCCI, the Mumbai Indians will kick off their campaign on March 29 against the three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Following that, Hardik Pandya’s squad will head to Delhi to face the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 4.
