Lucknow, May 2 (NationPress) Kapil Dev, the chief of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, had a meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence in Lucknow on Friday.
CM Yogi shared a snapshot of their meeting on X, stating, "The esteemed cricketer and captain of the victorious 1983 Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev, paid a courtesy visit today at my official residence in Lucknow."
Kapil Dev had an illustrious cricket career representing India from 1978 to 1994. Recognized as one of the finest all-rounders, he participated in 131 Tests, accumulating 12,867 runs and taking 434 wickets. In 225 ODIs, he scored 6,945 runs and claimed 253 wickets, leading India to its inaugural World Cup victory in 1983.
Post-retirement, Kapil Dev has served in various roles including coach, commentator, and as Chancellor of the Sports University of Haryana since 2019. He briefly served as India's coach for ten months between October 1999 and August 2000.
In June 2024, he was unanimously elected as the president of PGTI, succeeding Srinivasan H R.
