Shimoga, Oct 27 (NationPress) Karun Nair expressed his disappointment regarding his exclusion from India’s squad for the recent home Test series against the West Indies, stating he was eager to be part of the team. The Karnataka cricketer felt that he deserved much better following the decision to drop him.
Nair recently played in a Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, where he scored 73 and 8 in his two innings. He is currently participating in another Ranji match against Goa at the KSCA Navule Stadium in Shimoga.
Before the match, Nair shared his feelings with reporters, admitting he felt disheartened following his omission from the squad after a challenging tour in England.
"It's quite disappointing (to be dropped), but I believe I deserve to be there based on my performance over the last two years in domestic cricket. While people may have their views, I personally feel I deserve much more. Several teammates have had positive conversations with me about this, and that’s where it stands,” Nair commented.
“My focus is on scoring runs, which is my primary job. I remind myself that I deserve more than just a series. My only goal is to represent my country. If I can't do that, my next aim is to help my team win matches,” he added.
Nair backed up his statements with an outstanding performance, scoring an unbeaten 174 in the first innings after Karnataka batted first. His innings featured 14 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 65.16.
Ultimately, Nair was the last player remaining as Karnataka was bowled out for 371 in 110.1 overs.
