Diu, Jan 8 (NationPress) Just two years ago, countless gifted youth across the nation lacked platforms to engage in significant beach sports. The Khelo India Beach Games, currently taking place in Daman and Diu, has emerged as a remarkable opportunity for these athletes to demonstrate their abilities and aspire to reach the international arena.
Umabati Patra from Odisha, who clinched the gold medal in Pencak Silat at the second edition of the Khelo India Beach Games, expressed to IANS on Thursday how the Games serve as a tremendous platform for aspiring sportspeople, extending her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating such opportunities for individuals like her.
“Participating in these Games is an incredible feeling, and winning the gold medal brings me immense joy. I owe a lot to the Sports Department of Odisha for their support in our training; they provided excellent facilities and took care of our nutrition,” Umabati Patra shared with IANS.
“We put in a lot of effort leading up to the Games, and that's why we achieved this gold medal. My coach, Prem Singh Thapa, who is the secretary of our state association, also deserves credit for organizing our training. Khelo India is indeed a significant platform, and I am very thankful to Prime Minister Modi for establishing it,” she remarked.
Shreya, who secured a bronze medal at the Khelo India Beach Games, told IANS, “Winning a bronze medal on such a prestigious platform is an exhilarating experience. Khelo India feels almost like an international event, and I am truly grateful for this opportunity,” she added.
