Raipur, March 25 (NationPress) The Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026 on Wednesday, taking place in three cities across Chhattisgarh and running until April 3. Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that this event represents a significant milestone for Chhattisgarh, which will serve as a permanent host for the Games, set to be held annually in regions like Bastar, Sarguja, and Raipur.

The Minister emphasized that sporting talent is not confined to urban locales but flourishes in tribal areas, coastal regions, and remote parts of the nation. He stated, "The Khelo India Tribal Games are designed to uncover and elevate this overlooked potential."

Focusing on the educational value of sports, Dr. Mandaviya remarked that they impart discipline, balance, and vital life skills, resonating with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of fostering a robust sporting culture. He announced that SAI coaches will be at the event to identify talent through organized pathways such as Khelo India Centres and Centres of Excellence, ensuring athletes receive advanced training for national and international competitions.

Referencing celebrated athletes like Olympian Deepika Kumari, the Minister acknowledged the historical contributions of tribal communities to India's sports heritage. He expressed that the KITG will not only promote athleticism but also enhance tourism and regional growth, attracting participants and interest from across the nation and beyond.

Dr. Mandaviya also highlighted the importance of transparency in sports governance, mentioning reforms like the Sports Governance Bill and the forthcoming Khelo Bharat Niti, aimed at ensuring fair selection processes and promoting inclusivity, especially for women and tribal athletes. He reiterated that performance remains the primary focus, with selection processes being fair and transparent.

Expressing confidence in India's performance in future international competitions, including the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, Dr. Mandaviya stated that the nation is poised for its best showing at the Asian Games. He noted a remarkable transformation in sports over the past decade, propelled by a structured approach. Initiatives like Fit India and Khelo India have synergized to expand participation and nurture talent nationwide.

Finally, Dr. Mandaviya reaffirmed India’s ambition to host the Olympic Games in 2036, aiming for a top 10 global sports ranking by then, with aspirations to be among the top five sporting nations by 2047.
