Srinagar, Aug 14 (NationPress) The organizers of the inaugural Khelo India Water Sports Festival unveiled the Himalayan Kingfisher as the official mascot for the upcoming Games, set to take place at the iconic Dal Lake from August 21-23. This announcement was made on Thursday in Srinagar.
The water sports festival is an exciting addition to the expanding Khelo India calendar. Earlier this year, the first Khelo India Beach Games took place in Diu in May. The KIWSF will be organized by the J&K Sports Council in partnership with the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Sports Authority of India.
This marks the second Khelo India event for Jammu and Kashmir, following the successful snow events hosted in Gulmarg during the Khelo India Winter Games in March. The KIWSF will showcase rowing, canoeing, and kayaking as medal events, while demonstration events will include water skiing, shikara racing, and dragon boat racing. More than 400 athletes from 36 states and Union Territories are anticipated to attend the Games.
On Thursday, the Minister for Youth Services and Sports in Jammu and Kashmir, Satish Sharma, along with the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, unveiled both the mascot and the logo. They also presented the official kits for the Games.
The Himalayan Kingfisher, a vibrant mascot of the Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025, symbolizes the essence of adventure, nature, and competition inherent in the Games. Adorned in bold orange and blue, it reflects energy, serenity, and the stunning beauty of Kashmir. More than just a mascot, it serves as an ambassador for promoting eco-friendly sports, tourism, and youth engagement across the nation.
The logo of the Khelo India Water Sports Festival captures the heart of Kashmir, showcasing a Shikara gliding gracefully on Dal Lake, framed by majestic snow-capped mountains and lush pine trees. Its tranquil reflections epitomize the beauty of Kashmir, while the Khelo India colors harmoniously blend tradition, nature, and the vibrant energy of sports.
“Gulmarg has already established itself as the winter games capital, and now Dal Lake is set to become the hub for water sports in the country,” stated Sadiq, adding, “This is a moment of pride for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
