The L-G extended a warm welcome and best wishes to all athletes and officials participating in the event.
"The Khelo India Winter Games embody the ideals of peace, equality, and camaraderie. In our diverse nation, rich with languages, cultures, and traditions, the Winter Games at Gulmarg serve as a universal dialogue and shared heritage," he remarked.
He further noted that the Winter Games reflect life's inherent challenges, fostering resilience that leads to future successes. "Experiencing falls, learning from mistakes, and rising stronger are the true lessons of sports that skiers will embrace here," the L-G stated.
He stressed that the overarching goal of the Khelo India Winter Games is to enhance national unity.
According to the L-G, this large-scale winter sports event celebrates our country's sporting heritage, unity, and the transformative power of sports that connects every citizen and athlete, igniting their passion and building strong character.
"Fierce competition fosters conversations and lasting friendships, proving that healthy rivalry and mutual respect can coexist. Our society needs this ethos more than ever. While racing down these ski slopes, remember: our diversity is our strength, not our division. Khelo India teaches us that while our languages may differ, our aspirations and values bind us together," he commented.
"When athletes from various states train side by side, compete vigorously, and cheer for one another, the barriers of language, culture, and geography fade away, driven by the spirit of sports," added L-G Sinha.
He explained that the Winter Games challenge skiers against the very forces of nature, where excelling requires exceptional skills, and in the days to come, we will witness that expertise, along with the grace that comes from extensive training, unwavering determination, and extraordinary endurance.
The L-G encouraged athletes to maintain the highest standards of sportsmanship and to give their all throughout the competition.
"On these ski slopes of Gulmarg, an athlete's identity is solely based on performance; every outcome is a testament to your skills, discipline, and determination, shaping new champions," he said.
In disciplines such as alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, and ski mountaineering, athletes' rigorous training and steadfast commitment will be prominently displayed," the L-G remarked.
L-G Sinha also highlighted the evolution of the sporting landscape in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He noted that the development of cutting-edge sports infrastructure through the Prime Minister's Development Package (PMDP) and the establishment of 100 Khelo India Centres have transformed the sporting environment.
He emphasized that modern infrastructure, combined with the talent and dedication of Jammu and Kashmir's youth, alongside the proactive support of committed officials, has provided a significant boost to the sector.
L-G Sinha remarked that true character is revealed not only in victory but also in adversity, and a genuine athlete remains humble in success and dignified in defeat.
